American Eskimo dogs
Of the entire dog breeds one of the suitable and attractive is the American Eskimo Dog. American Eskimo dog is from the Spitz family and well thought-out a Nordic breed. When brought to America its name was altered to the American Eskimo dog. It was at first connected to the white German Spitz. They originally altered the name because after World War I there were extensive anti-German sentiments. They are now well thought-out to be two separate breeds but the two breeds are a very close relative.
A fact shows that the "White Spitz dog" was also brought to America by German immigrants. The studbook was stopped up by the North American Eskimo dog Association in 1969. To gain recognition into the AKC, The American Eskimo Dog Club of America was founded in 1985.
On July 1, 1995 the American Eskimo dog was registered into the American Kennel Club in the Non-Sporting category. There are three sizes of the breed, the normal, miniature, and of course, the toy dogs. The typical size will attain a height of 15 to 19 inches, and will weigh stuck between 18 and 35 pounds. A miniature will be 12-15 inches tall and weigh 10-20 pounds. A toy dog will be 9-12 inches high and weigh six to ten pounds.
Being a small to medium size breed the American Eskimo dog is a proportionate, compact Nordic kind dog. When it walks or run you will see a soft step. The dog is also very watchful. There are very characteristic black spots on the dogs face. They are around the eye rims, lips and on the nose. The ears also have the black spots and are triangular shaped and stand upright.
The skin is two fold. The under skin consist of short thick hair. The external skin grows through the undercoat with long safeguard hair. This gives the dog a double hide. The hair should lay smooth with no waves or tresses. Around the neck and chest the hair is much thicker and forms a ruff similar to a loin. This characteristic is more pronounced on a male than on the females. The breech look, which is the personality of the breed, is fashioned around the back legs to the hocks and is covered in very thick hair also. The tail is freely carried on its back and is very impressive. The color of the American Eskimo dog must be pure white, however white and biscuit cream is also tolerable.
As a puppy the American Eskimo dog is a little on the traditional but is usually sociable. They are very clever and highly watchful. If being publicized they can be disciplined for either violent behavior or being excessively shy. If you want a watchdog this is a high-quality breed, due to its watchfulness they will bark when an unknown person is approaching. They do not general terrorize to bite or attack people, but they are defensive of their area and family. It is quick and keen to learn new behavior.
Nevertheless this dog is usually healthy there are a few things it is at risk to. Owners should pay close interest to any changes in the tear ducts or eyes. To avoid dermatitis remain the coat free of parasites and hygienic.
This dog is very energetic and is best suitable for living in an area with a courtyard where it can run and play. It can become chunky very easily so habitual exercise is a must. It would be okay in an apartment house as long as you had a place to exercise the dog. You must brush the dog at least thrice a week. Remember it has a thick hair so you will need a comb or brush with bristles that are stiff. The breed is not actually a heavy shedder, but when it does get rid of its hair increase the brushing regularity to daily. Wash only when essential.
