BAUMBER dog owner feared, greyhound went missing
A BAUMBER dog owner feared the worse when his beloved greyhound went missing - but dog and owner were reunited the following day against all odds thanks to East Lindsey District Council.
ELDC recently released a website aimed at reuniting stray dogs with their owners, which helped Roger Finney find his pooch, Tess.
Mr Finney of Storton Park felt his heart sink when he returned home from work last week, at around 5pm, and noticed the kennel was open and his ex-racing greyhound was gone.
"Tess could have been gone since 8am as my wife who is usually there was away for the day and I was thinking she could be anywhere as she chases anything," he said.
He frantically contacted the police and searched the village high and low, with no success.
It was his son who suggested logging on to ELDC's website.
When he did, he spotted his dog's details and was full of relief.
A dog warden from ELDC had found Mr Finney's dog and placed the details on the website immediately.
"I couldn't believe it when I logged on and found the de
tails right there at the top. I felt contented and reassured that she was safe and collected her from the kennels the next day," said Mr Finney.
ELDC became responsible for all stray dogs in the area on Sunday, taking over from Lincolnshire Police.
Spokesperson for ELDC, James Gilbert, said: "This is an excellent online service and its great that we've been able to reunite Mr Finney with his dog.
This is about us providing a service outside normal office hours when people maybe at work and I'm sure more people like Mr Finney will benefit as it develops further."
As well as setting up this website to get stray dogs back with their owners, they have designated Walkers Kennels in Grainthorpe and Furze Pet Hotel in Beesby near Alford as animal reception centres, where strays can be taken outside normal office hours.
